, john. i don't believe it is a mandate. >> why isn't a mandate if it is such a big win? >> a mandate for what? a mandate to work together, certainly the entire country wants that. but the real fire bell in the night on this election is for the republican party. there are 100 million folks in this country who are black, brown, asian, hispanic, middle eastern, they voted between 70 and 90% democratic and the white vote only went by 18 points to mitt romney. john of the seven largest states in the country, illinois, new york, pennsylvania, california have gone democratic in six straight elections. the other two, ohio and florida have swung democratic in two elections. and in texas, the white folks in chief connection texas -- texas are now a minority. >>> do you think this was a split verdict? >> not at all. the president won 51.4% of the popular vote which he becomes the sixth president in history to win two terms with over 50% of the dwight eisenhower, i might add. he won an electoral college landslide. george w. bush with a much smaller electoral win pronounced he had a mandate. this

he wants to do is prevent the republican house speaker john boehner from setting the agenda, establishing the ground rules when it comes to negotiations over the fiscal cliff. this mix of spending cuts and tax increases that's going to kick in at the end the year. so after returning to the white house victorious you'll hear the president argue today as he did so many times on the campaign trail that household income over $250,000 a year should revert to those higher clinton era tax rates. white house aides say his victory tuesday night is a sign that the american people feel the same way so they have no intention of backing down on that issue no matter how many republicans disagree. beyond that the white house hasn't said how they plan to handle negotiations over the fiscal cliff. they have been regrouping, the president held some meetings with top aides yesterday about it and democrats on capitol hill tell me they are just waiting to hear how the white house wants to move for. there's nothing they can do until they hear from this white house. gayle and charlie we got a star

center, of course there was a but, you heard john boehner in particular, talking about the fact that on the issue that has divided them over the past year or so on this fiscal cliff issue, taxes, saying very clearly he does not want to raise taxes. but he also put out an olive branch, anderson, he said maybe he would be for some kind of -- raising some kind of revenue. he didn't say what that means but talked about broad tax reform as it relates to entitlement reform. on the other side of the capital, you saw right over there, the senate majority leader harry reid feeling like he was leveraging here, it was a clear-cut issue, but also because of the mechanics of it. if nobody does anything, taxes for everybody will go up. so democrats realize that, they feel like any have leverage and they're probably right. >> and there's motivation to try to do something on that. >> exactly. >> there was a private conference call that boehner had with his caucus. what do you know about it? >> we were told this was a call where all house republicans were invited to this. he was very sober and h

really got it. howard dean revolutionized the use of the web. john kerry went forward on that aspect. but boy, the bush campaign had it going. in 2008, the mccain campaign was up and down. the organization after its, what they had in 2004 was lost in 2008. it had to be rebuilt by the romney campaign, but only after their able to get the republican nomination in april. it was late in part because of super pacs, which kept the process going much longer than it ever normally goes. as long as you and i have been watching this and before that, when a candidate started losing primaries, other donors close their checkbooks. you run out of money and you drop out of the race. what is happening is, they kept gingrinch going for a while. the process went longer and longer. romney had to go so much further and longer -- here is a guy who is probably by nature -- when we met for him when he ran for the senate in 1994, that is where he was. he has to run so much longer and further to the right than he ever dreamed and in part because of the super pac effort. then you had -- i guess the final thing

and republican senators john mccain and lindsay graham. it began to escalate earlier this morning when the senators vowed to stand in the way of the president if -- if he goes ahead and nominates the united nations ambassador susan rice to replace hillary clinton secretary of state. mccain and graham are scathing of rice's early remarks about the deadly attack on the u.s. diplomats in benghazi, libya. >> this is about the role she played around four dead americans when it seems to be that the story coming out of the administration. and she's the point person, is so disconnected to reality. i don't trust her. and the reason i don't trust her is because i think she knew better. and if she didn't know better, she shouldn't be the voice of america. somebody has got to start paying a price around this place. >> let's see what happens here. but we will do whatever's necessary to block the nomination that's within our power as far as susan rice is concerned. >> all right. listen to the president's very, very angry response to senators mccain and graham during that white house news conference.

the investigation into david petraeus and why it was kept secret until after the election. let's begun with john allen now finds himself in the middle of this growing scandal. he currently sios at commander of nato forces in afghanistan. and jill kelly said that she had been receiving bizarre comments from paula broadwell. what did the e-mails say? they characterize the messages as, quote, flirtatious in nature and inappropriate. we have just learned that two u.s. officials tell fox that it was more than just flirting. they describe them as sexually split and equivalent of phone sex over e-mail. he denies it but something is not adding up. we heard from the father of broadwell. this is something else entirely and the truth will come out. there is a lot more than meets the eye. if we are to believe the story we are told all of this started because paula broadwell sent anonymous e-mails to kelly. it's like cat ties stuff, phrases who do you think you are? you parade around the base. you need to take it down a notch. none of them reportedly referenced violence but the f.b.i. launched a full investi
